The magnetically controlled safety unit for gas lines prevents the formation of explosive mixtures with a valve whose spring characteristic is drooping. Improved response for small gas pressures is achieved with a control diaphragm (19) carrying the core (9) of valve (2). The response of the diaphragm is determined by spring (20). With a pressure build-up under the valve disc (10), the latter is shifted together with the diaphragm and the field strength is altered. As a result, valve (2) is opening. If the stroke of the valve should be large, then the field of the permanent magnet (8) is insufficient, and a stepped magnet is then employed.
