The stentor frame assembly to carry stretched fabric through a thermal treatment process has the fan wheels for the delivery of hot air, near the upper or lower housing wall. The major mass of the fan wheels is located within the housing walls with the outlet openings of the fan wheels towards the housing walls. The fan wheels take the air from a single or double adjacent assembly, mounted as a mirror image. If the fan wheels are mounted vertically, the suction supports are arranged on top of each other. The outlet of a direct gasheating unit is located in the suction zone between the fan wheels. There is a division in the gas flow channel, at the outlet, between the upper and lower fan zones giving outlets of different cross section aligned upwards and downwards. The fans deliver a constant and undistorted air stream across the fabric, and the fans are in a compact bearing assembly which gives quieter running and which requires less maintenance and repair.
