The optical devices are of known tupes such as e.g. corner reflectors, periscopes, range finders, sighting optical systems etc. Signals are picked-up by detectors (19) and they are displayed by a display unit into whose light path they are faded-in, or they are displayed directly at the observation device so that the periscope or the sighting device operates as a head up display. The optical periscope or sighting device may be used in a tank. It may swivel through 360 deg. in the usual way and has an opto electric shutter in the light path.
