A miniaturised optical display of digital information uses a fibre optic bundle for transmission of an image, followed by an inclined display element to provide size amplification of the data. Light from a bulb (23) is transmitted over a two position mask (27) into a fibre optic conductor (20). For any specific character a matrix of such conductors will be used with a mask with the character layout defined by apertures (30). Since the overall size of the conductor bundle should be small for efficiency, the display element (31) surface is arranged to provide size amplification. The light (22) is projected onto an inclined reflecting surface (34) and an image projected onto a horizontal display surface (38).
