The meal is produced by first treating a low-protein cellulose-contg. material (esp. corn straw) to convert the cellulose to hemicellulose. The product is incubated with mycelium obtained from spores of a suitable fungus (esp. pleurotus ostreatus), and the resulting mass is ground. The product is an inexpensive substitute for cereal feed bases.
