Treating waste water from car wash plant - by flocculation pref. with polyacrylamide, sedimentation and adsorption

The waste water contains biologically degradable detergent and solids and is aerated in use. Th ewater is mixed with polymeric flocculant, pref. a polyacrylamide. Mixt. obtd. is passed through a sedimentation zone. Flocculated solids are deposited on passing through the zzone. A stream of water having a reduced solids content is formed and treated with an adsorbent, pref. active C. After flocculation and sedimentation, detergent quantity can be reduced from 46 to 7 ppm water with reduced solids content can be re-used as wash water, after adding detergent. After adsorption, solids content can be reduced to 0.6 ppm, and water obtd. may be re-used for rinsing.
