Control mechanism for variable pitch propeller - is hydraulically actuated by piston from motor driven oil pump

The mechanism on the propeller consists of a ram operating an eccentric which rotates each propeller blade. Oil from the gearbox crankcase is fed to either side of the piston by a motor driven pump. A selector switch determines the path of the oil and hence whether the pitch is increased or decreased, and the length of the movement. The oil connection which feeds oil down the centre of the shaft is inside the gearbox. The cylinder, ram and control box are all part of the shaft rotating assembly.
