Forest fire detection appts - responsive to visible or infra red radiation in area surrounding observation post

The appts constantly sweeps the surveillance area surrounding the observation post, to detect visible or IR radiation, indicating a forest fire. The appts temporarily stores the radiation intensities successively measured for corresponding directions, over a number of sweeps, and provides a spatial correlation between the measured intensity for each of the directions with a mean intensity for the complete scan and/or a temporal correlation for successive scans. An alert cct. is released if the correlation(s) indicate a fire. The appts is carried by a rotating plate (10) with two receivers (11, 12) with parallel lenses and e.g. photodiode detectors (13, 14).
