The microscope has an optical arrangement which can be built into any microscope or, alternatively, used as required as a removable unit. The arrangement is a Bertrand lens system with a shutter, which slides into side grooves of the microscope carrier arm on a carrier plate. The optical system incorporates a double-sided mirror, a number of reflecting surfaces or mirrors, convergent and divergent lenses as well as a correction lens. One side of the carrier plate has two notches, either of which engages on a projection inside one of the side grooves of the carrier arm. When the first notch engages, the correction lens lies in the optical axis of the microscope for orthoscopic observations. The second notch brings one of the mirrors in the optical system into line with the optical axis.
