As the door is opened the spring is compressed by a bolt which is pushed into the spring-slot. The dead centre point of maximum spring compression is passed as the hinge link bearing moves to the opposite side of the bolt-face, allowing the spring to expand only slightly and locking the bolt in position until the door is closed. The spring-bolt assembly cooperates with a stop which is built into the catch of the door itself.
