In grouting an offshore structure, compressed air is injected into the clearance space between a leg of the structure and a pile to displaced water from that space via its lower end, and then as grouting material is injected into the space the air pressure is progressively reduced so that re-entry of water is prevented by the combined effects of the growing column of grouting material and the remaining air pressure.
