Polymerisable acrylic acid adhesive contg. ABS resin - for high strength, lower brittleness and wide range of applicability

Polymerisable acrylic acid adhesive, of the type contg. monomeric methyl methacrylate (MMA) and a small amt. of an acrylic acid, pref. methacrylic acid together with sufficient dissolve polymer, pref. a MMA polymer, to give a viscosity suitable for an adhesive, contains 5-30, pref. 10-15 wt.% ABS resin, pref. prepd. from 1/2 butadiene, 1/3 styrene and 1/6 acrylonitrile. The compsn. can also contain a polymerisation initiator and a small amt. of an acrylic ester polymer which is more elastic than the MMA polymer. Compsn. is useful as adhesive, coating compsn. or binder, e.g. in clear, coloured or pigmented form for fibre-reinforced compsns., wood chips, marble chips etc. The adhesive is less brittle than conventional acrylic acid-based adhesives and can be used for a wide range of purposes. All prods. have high strength and stability and can be made to look attractive.
