Safety release system for parachutes - jettisons main parachute upon release of an auxiliary parachute

When a main parachute is automatically jettisoned, after failure to open, a spare is brought into action. The main parachute harness (8) is joined to the body harness (1) by links (9). Each comprises two opposing L-shaped levers, locked by a pin. The spare parachute (3) opens by a ring (32) attached to a rod (31) being pulled. This releases two locking pins (33) and, at the same time, pulls two flexible steel cables (10, 10a) attached to the end of the rod (34). As the space parachute opens, the cables disengage the pins in the main harness links and this immediately falls away.
