The battery recharger for motor vehicle batteries has a control circuit connected between the charging rectifier and the battery terminals to control the charging current supplies to the battery in dependence on the output of a voltage sensor which monitors the battery terminal voltage. The charge regulation is arranged to avoid dissociation of the distilled water in the battery. The control circuit contains a Darlington pair and a load resistor to prevent overloading. The voltage sensor also ensures that the equipment is not overloaded if the charger is connected with the wrong polarity to the battery.
