The device has a co-axial intersliding arrangement of an inner magnetic rod (8), an intermediate tube (4), and an outer tube (3). The rod and intermediate tube project from the outer tube and retract under door pressure against contained coil springs (5, 10) to effect retraction of the rod (8) and magnetic engagement of a door mounted disc (11), and continued retraction with absorption of door impact. The stepped diameter rod and intermediate tube engage inner returns on the intermediate and outer tubes to prevent escape of the rod and intermediate tube. An end stop (6) is locked in the end of the outer tube by a small pin.
