The buoy is anchored by three or more lines moored to deadweights on the sea- or river-bed arranged at the corners of a triangle. Each line anchoring the main buoy (7) to the deadweights (1, 3) is also moored at an intermediate point to a satellite buoy (4, 6) floating on the surface. One or more of the lines can also be moored at an intermediate point to a submerged float, or alternatively ballasted at such a point. The design keeps the buoy very accurately in position, with minimum drift dur to tides, while allowing the lines to absorb shock-loads from waves.
