A brush holder for rotary electric machines is easy to manufacture and to assemble separate parts and can be assembled in pairs or in a multipole arrangement. Carriers (20), made of conductive material, for the brushes (22) are laid into recesses on both sides of an insulating block which are then closed by plates. The brush pockets have raised walls (23) to guide the spiral spring (24) over the full brush wear length. Copper braid (28) joins the brushes to a flat connector (29). The common bore (4) can be used to assemble the desired number of brush holders in line.
