The bottom (11) of the food can has a concave profile (f) with shoulders (17) spaced about a central area (13), the corner between bottom and sides being a large radius rim (16) projecting outwards. The number of shoulders is equal to D/50, where D is can dia. in mm and the number is rounded up or down. Each shoulder has a frusto conical surface which is of opposite angle to an adjacent shoulder (18) by which it is connected to the next inner shoulder (18) or the central area (13). The axial flexure of the central area is between 0.02D and 0.046D.
