The method of supporting the overlapping sections of the firebars (6) is changed so that the front (4) of one bar is kept far enough from the top of the one beneath to prevent excessive wear. A gap of 0.5 to 1 mm is used. The required gap (9) is to be obtained by adjusting the horizontal position of a stop (8') against which a downward projection (3') of the pivoted (7) firebar rests. In an alternative version, the stop remains fixed and the strut which connects the firebar to it is the adjustable element.
