The back wheel (1) is mounted on a rigid axle fixed to the bottom of the trailing suspension arm (3). The arm is elastically hinged about a cross member (4) and has an upper projection (7) on which hinges the body of a hydraulic damper (9). The piston of the damper is anchored elastically (12) to an extension (13) to a support arm (14) which is rigid with the cross member (4). A helical spring (15) surrounds the damper and is compressed between a cup (16) fixed to the damper body and a surface (17) which is part of the support arm (14). The support arm is attached elastically to the car chassis (20, 22), and a rubber bump stop (21) limits the suspension travel.
