The flow channel can be heated or cooled in the throttling element region, so that the clearance between the channel inner wall and the throttling element is controlled. This controlled region is practically perpendicular to the medium flow direction. The flow channel (2) is situated within a first pipe(1). A sphere(3) is held in position by projections(4). A heater surround (5) covers part of the pipe (1). The expansion of the pipe (1) in relation to the throttle sphere(3) permits the medium to flow. To provide a large difference of coefficients of expansion the pipe (1) can be made of brass and the sphere (3) of steel.
