Tubular edge frame for couchette - has approx hollow 'L' section giving lateral and vertical support for mattress edge

A couchette used for sleeping accommodation on boats or trains incorporates a rectangular edge frame of a special tubular section (6). This gives both vertical and lateral support for the edges of the mattress (8). The top wall of the tubular member is of an assymetric 'V' section. One leg (7) of the 'V' aligns approx. horizontally and provides vertical mattress support. The other leg (10) subtends say an angle of 120 deg. with the first leg and provides lateral mattress support. At the free end of the latter leg (10) is a generous rounded nose (11). Two vertical legs (12, 15) and a stepped (20) horizontal base wall (14) may complete the hollow section. A curved metal lattice (9) may span between frame members (6). The base wall rebate (20) may accommodate a flush soffit panel (21).
