Water-soluble sulphonated polyesters - useful as sizing agent for textiles

The novel hydrophilic sulphonated polyesters (I) are obtd. by polycondensing a mixt. of dicarboxylic cpds. comprising an aromatic diacid, its anhydride or diester and an aliphatic diacid, its anhydride or diester with a mixt. of a diol of m.wt. 300 and a sulphonated diol in which the sulphonic gp. is attached to an aliphatic C atom. Cpds. (I) are useful for sizing textiles, the thread leaving the spinneret having excellent abrasion resistance facilitating perfect weaving. The size is readily removed by water.
