The dirigible airship has compressed air reservoirs (10) each side of its centre of gravity. An air compressor (12) supplies air from the atmosphere through the non-return valve (14) to the reservoir (10). A valve (16) controls the discharge of air to the atmosphere and the safety valve (18) prevents excess pressure. The altitude of the airship is increased by discharging air. The altitude is reduced by pumping more air into the reservoir (10). The angle of inclination of the aircraft can be adjusted by filling the reservoir at only one end of the airship. High pressure reservoirs can be near the centre and low pressure reservoirs remote from the centre of gravity.
