The compounds of Formula I may be prepared by reacting a 4,4SP1/SP - bis - halogen methyl ar - octahalogen diphenyl ether of general formula wherein X represents a halogen atom and an alkali metal acetate or formate to form the corresponding diacetate or diformate, and transesterifying the diacetate or diformate with an alcohol to form the desired compound.
