The barbecue unit has a hearth (2) with a wind guard (8) which are mounted on a single telescopically adjustable leg (34). The hearth (2) may pivot relative to its support fork (18) for storage, and the leg base may comprise a collapsible scissor type tripod (36 to 48). A 'U' shaped bar support (18) for the hearth (2) has a socket (31) which extends vertically down from the base of the 'U' to receive the top (33) of the telescopic leg. A diametric locking screw (32) secures the leg in the socket. Slotted angle irons (21, 22) are mounted on the top of each 'U' leg to form seats for stub axles (17). The hearth may be rotated 90 deg. to align with the leg and 'U' bar, and its movement is controlled by a stop (28) engaging a circular track (25).
