Continuous annealing plant - with carriage motors in strip looping towers controlled with feedback from strip tensionmeter

Continuous annealing line for cold-rolled steel strip consists of a heating, equalizing, quenching, over ageing and cooling zone. Drive motors and carriages in the inlet and/or outlet deflection towers are controlled by a control circuit. This matches the strip tension measured by a gauge with the set value and adjusts the motor current accordingly. This converts the annealing line to a closed circuit without any loose strip loops. No jockey pulleys are required and the risk of uneven tension producing irregular annealing has been eliminated.
