The number printing device has a number of embossed printing wheels mounted parallel to each other on a common spindle. Each wheel works with a ratchet wheel driven by a pivoting pawl a rocking mounting. The mounting has two flanges on opposite sides of the set of embossed wheel and turns on their spindle. It is actuated by a sliding tappet with return spring. Each ratchet wheel has a brake lever on a fixed axis, spring-loaded into engagement between successive wheel teeth. A rocking bolt (15) pivots freely on a spindle parallel to that of the embossed wheels, and has for each ratchet wheel a first locking head acting against the tooth face not engaged by the pawl (9), and a second head engaging with a cam on each pawl mounting flange.
