Polyacrylonitrile textile fabrics are dyed by adding to the polymer spinning soln. a pigment imparting a background shade, e.g. C black to give a grey shade, and then dyeing the polymer fibres in the primary or secondary swollen state by conventional methods using basic dyes. Process allows deep shades of various colours to be obtd. without using a large amt. of basic dyes. Instead, a cheap pigment is used to give a grey shade which is then blended with a reduced amt. of basic dyes. Process can also be applied to polyamides, polyesters, polyethylene etc.
