The black shade of acrylonitrile (co)polymers is improved by addn. of cationic and basic dyes with migration factor (M) of is not 20, combination coefficient (I) 2.5 and cation wt. 310, which are blue or violet in colour. Neutral or bluish-black shades are obtd. Although soluble in the solns., so that no blocking or wear of spinning nozzles occurs, very little bleeding-out takes place in the coagulation, stretching or wash baths. Very high dye yields are obtd., with constant and uniform shade and without fading. Changes in shade are easily affected, and contamination of regenerate by dye decompsn. prods. avoided. Increased cost of regenerating baths to remove extracted dye is eliminated.
