The measuring method is for the frequency and duration of non-coherent wave packets, pref. using Doppler speed measurement devices. The duration of single periods is determined and reciprocals formed to avoid errors caused by overlaping wave packets and accelerating targets. In zero-crossing detection systems overlapping wave resultants may not fall below the threshold level and may produce phase related timing errors. Accelerating targets producing increasing frequency packets result in average frequency indications. A system of duration counter, comparison logic, mean value circuit, and stores is used to generate test criteria for the next duration period to be measured from those previously measured. The output signal is generated by the reciprocal circuit and corresponds to the Dopper frequency.
