Bayonet socket end strengthening - using reinforcing ring or collar welded or soldered in place to cover slots

A reinforcing ring or collar is welded or soldered over the open end of the bayonet socket so that it covers completely or partially, the open ends of the slots into which the projections on the plug are introduced. The projections are equal in length to, or shorter than, the wall thickness of the socket. The reinforcing collar may project slightly beyond the end of the socket. In a variant, the collar is replaced by a thick flange which is notched to accept longer spigots on the plug. The staggered part of the slot in the socket wall then lies adjacent to the upper surface of the flange so that the spigot bears on the flange after rotation.
