The auxiliary elevating mast is fitted to the elevating bridge of a forklift truck. It enables the working height to be increased without extending the height of the main mast. It comprises a U shaped channel (12) each side, with tie bars across. The elevating carriage (20) runs on rollers inside these channels, one end of a cable or chain (32) being fitted to a bracket (22) each side. The other cable end is fixed to an upper bracket (24) on each channel. An hydraulic cylinder (26) each side operates a pulley (30) inside each cable loop. The elevating carriage travel is twice the cylinder travel.
