The refuse incinerator suitable for country districts has a housing (7) completely enclosing the combustion zone with doors (4) one end. Between the ends is a pair of vertical grids (2) spaced apart to form a chimney (3) the whole length of the housing. At the bottom of each grid is a horizontal grate (9) projecting outwards. The refuse is delivered onto two sloping partitions which guide the charge onto the horizontal grates. These grates can be supported by chains (15) from the partitions. Under the chimney is a trough shaped ash collector (13). Refuse vehicles can discharge into the top, and ash removal wagons (14) can be wheeled through the doors to a position alongside the trough.
