Flame-retarding wood treatment compsn. - based on monomethylol dicyandiamide, melamine and phosphoric acid

The compsn. which renders wood flame-retardant and resistant to leaching without rendering the wood hygroscopic comprises a partially reacted aqs. soln. of monomethylol dicyandiamide, melamine and phosphoric acid in which the molar ratio of monomethylol dicyandiamide/melamine is 11.5/1-3/1 and the molar ratio of phosphoric acid/monomethylol dicyandiamide + melamine is 1/1-1/1.5, the concn. of the soln. being 6-80%, pref. 6-30%. The compsns. can be transported economically, have excellent length of preservation and can be dissolved in water to give the above partially reacted solns. The treated wood also shows improved dimensional stability, reduced hygroscopicity and no efflorescence.
