MANUFACTURE OF COBALT III ACETYLACETONATE

1462023 Cobalt (III) acetylacetonate WACKER-CHEMIE GmbH 7 April 1975 [29 April 1974] 14099/75 Heading C2C Cobalt (III) acetylacetonate is prepared by mixing a solution of cobalt (II) acetylacetonate with an at least stoichiometric amount of acetylacetone, adding excess hydrogen peroxide to oxidize the mixture, removing excess hydrogen peroxide by boiling, and subsequently precipitating cobalt (III) acetylacetonate, e.g. by cooling and/or concentrating, and separating it, washing it and optionally drying it. The initial cobalt (II) acetylacetonate may be prepared by mixing acetylacetone with aqueous CoCl 2 and adjusting the pH to 7-8 with ammonia.
