Two grids may be joined across one or more edges or ends of a plate to form a cage, which may enclose one plate only or several plates spaced by further grids. The rods may allow one cage to slide over another, so that one group of individually caged plates may be adjusted into or out of phase with a second group, the plates of the two groups being arranged alternately (Figs. 3B, 3C not shown). Additional fixed or adjustable flat plates 9 may be located between grids abutting adjacent corrugated plates, and such an arrangement may form a tongue and groove connection when cages are stacked with their plates abutting end to end (Fig. 6, not shown). Cages may similarly be stacked with the corrugated edges of plates abutting. Alternatively cages may be divided by additional transverse rods between their grids, to enclose several plates abutting endwise or edgewise. The rods 2 or 2, 6 of one grid or one cage may be formed by a single length of rod suitably bent. Grids could comprise mainly rods 3, with rods 2 connecting only the ends of rods 3, or rods 2 could be corrugated to allow corrugated plates to nest more closely together than is illustrated.
