1475189 Crystal growth NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 1 May 1975 [3 May 1974] 19654/74 Headings B1G and BIS A crystal growth apparatus comprises a vessel containing the crystallisation liquid, a seed crystal carrier rotatably mounted about a vertical axis and supporting a seed crystal with a single downwards facing flat face exposed for growth and a liquid guidance means in the vessel for directing a stream of liquid with a relatively small temperature gradient across the stream towards the exposed surface of the seed crystal so that the rotation of the seed directs the liquid across the seed crystal face in substantially horizontally directions, the rate of movement of the liquid stream being substantially greater than that due to convection currents in the liquid. Suitable apparatus as shown in Fig. II and comprises a seed crystal I immersed in a crystal growth solution 5 contained in vessel 6 fitted with a sintered glass disc 12 connected via pipe 11 to pump 10 which circulates a stream of solution 5. The apparatus is particularly suitable for the growth of large crystals of triglycine sulphate from aqueous solutions.
