1478963 Contraction joint seal SCHLEGEL (UK) Ltd 11 June 1974 [12 June 1973] 28018/73 Heading E1B A resilient, polymeric contraction joint seal comprises a flange 3 with a compressible sealing portion along one edge (e.g. ribs 4), the sealing portion being thicker than the flange, and flange being reinforced by an internal flexible wire 5 so that the flange is stiffer than the sealing portion. The wire 5 forms a zig-zag with the zigs interconnected by fibres. Fig. 2 (not shown). Reinforcement rods may be placed in the ribs 4. The flange 3 may be made of a different material from the ribs 4 and joined thereto by a tongue and groove connection. The ribs 4 may be evacuated to collapse them under vacuum to assist insertion into a concrete road.
