As shown, a shaft 1, for mechanically coupling the main machine and the exciter, carries two annular supports 2, 21 for rectifiers, e.g. 7, 8, 71, 8SP1/SP, both supports being traversed by conductors 13 which project beyond the supports and which, in operation, set up air turbulence which causes a flow of air through the hollow conductors 10, 16. The hollow conductors are disposed in axially extending slots formed by the aligned notches in a plurality of insulating supports 40. The three-phase exciter output is fed to conductors 10. The D.C. output is taken from the carriers 2, 2SP1/SP.
