In a welding machine for converting tubular thermoplastic film into bags by transverse welding under press. onto a heated wire, the beam for pressing the sheet against the wire and part of the machine platform for guiding and supporting the film are moved simultaneously by a common yoke. Intended primarily for shop or domestic use, the design simplifies holding of the film taut and smooth while applying the welding press. leading to more consistent and reproducible welds. The mobiel part of the platform is returned to its rest position by a spring which is pref. an elastic component of plastics material. The fixed platform is slotted so that push rods can raise the weld zone from contact with the wire after the press. is released.
