1334489 Bulk polymerization process RHONE-PROGIL 6 April 1972 [8 April 1971] 15919/72 Heading C3P In the bulk polymerization of vinyl chloride at least part of the process is carried out in the presence of a polymerization initiator having a half life of less than one hour at the polymerization temperature which is introduced into the reaction in two fractions the first being added to the reaction and the second then being added in solution in monomer continuously and in finely divided form. The monomers may be subjected to a pre-polymerization process using high speed agitation to 7-15% conversion then as above at low speed agitation. Monomer vapours leaving the reaction may be condensed and mixed with initiator to form the initiator solution. Copolymerization with vinyl acetate and propylene is exemplified.
