An accelerating governor for steam turbines comprising a speed transducer adapted to be mounted on the shaft of the turbine, a digital acceleration signal circuit connected to said transducer, a comparator connected to the said signal circuit, the output signal from said comparator actuating an actuator, through an amplifier.
