The mechanism folds strips of paper or similar material, and has a holding frame with driving roller guiding the strip over a former or folder member and between former and holding rollers. A slide (16) holding the former (31) works in the frame (11-13), and a strip-slitting mechanism (40) has a rotary knife (41) mounted on the underside of the former. A freely-rotating support (44) in line with the knife is mounted on the slide above the former, a keeper (45) being provided to lower it into the position working in conjunction with the knife. Other mechanisms (25) move the slide in the frame and simultaneously align the former and the slitting mechanism to suit strips of varying widths.
