The housing accommodates an electric motor, blower, fan, air conduit etc., e.g. in a vacuum cleaner, the walls being of foam material with inlaid reinforcement and external enclosing skin. The reinforcement incorporates walls and/or mountings for a number of items such as motor frame (9), fan housing (4), switches, air conduit (7), pipe union (5), cable guides, cover mounting etc. The reinforcement can be a plastic injection moulding forming part of the housing inner wall and enclosed in the foam housing wall. It can have continuous edges forming a seal with the foam material mould, acting as the core of the latter. It can also act as the dome of the blower housing, being integral with the pipe union.
