1437811 Catalyst poison absorber ACCUMULATORENWERK HOPPECKE CARL ZOELLNER & SOHN 18 April 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 18638/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] An absorber for removing the catalyst poisons stibine and arsine from the explosive gas mixtures produced during the operation of a lead/ acid accumulator cell comprises at least one heavy metal manganite (preferably copper manganite) in association with a carrier (preferably an alugel). The absorber may be prepared by heating the carrier material in a solution of a salt of a heavy metal and of a salt of manganese, mixing the solution and carrier with a solution of a carbonate whereby the carbonates of the heavy metal and of managanese are precipitated on the carrier, and washing, drying and calcining the resulting coated carrier. A device in which the absorber may be used is also described (see Division B1).
