CONTINUOUS OUTPUT BRINE FREEZING SYSTEM AND APPARATUS FOR FREEZING LARGE FISH ON BOARD FISHING VESSELS

1520737 Freezing fish D J DOUST 22 July 1975 [22 July 1974] 32366/74 -Heading F4H A method of continuously freezing fish in brine comprises the steps of supplying brine at a temperature of - 35‹ C. from a brine storage tank to a first tank, terminating the supply of brine to the first tank and loading fish into the first tank to freeze them while returning a portion of the brine from the first tank to the brine storage tank, terminating loading of the fish into the first tank and the return of brine from the first tank to the brine storage tank, supplying brine from the brine storage tank to a second tank, terminating the supply of brine to the second tank and loading fish into the second tank to freeze them while returning a portion of the brine from the second tank to the brine storage tank, terminating loading of the fish into the second tank and the return of brine from the second tank to the brine storage tank and circulating brine from the brine storage tank through the first and second tank when the tanks are loaded with fish. As shown, each of the freezing tanks has a hatch opening 20 and a hatch cover 23. Separated port and starboard refrigerating apparatus 24 and 25 are provided for freezing brine for supply to the port and starboard rows of freezing tanks (1-12, Fig. 2, not shown). The apparatus 24 and 25 each include a sea water pump 26, condenser 26a, brine chiller 27 and a brine feed pump 28. The brine is pumped through a common supply header 40, connecting pipes 41, control valves 42 to perforated pipes 43 located in the bottom of each tank. Each of the tanks is drained of brine through the valves 44 and pipe connections (45) leading to a common drain header 46, and a pump (47, Fig. 4) pumps the drained brine into the port and starboard brine collecting tanks 29 and 30.
