1376224 Polymeric articles HERCULITE PROTECTIVE FABRICS CORP 1 Feb 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 18840/74 Divided out of 1376223 Heading A5E A method of producing a polymeric article having active antibacterial and antifungal properties comprises adherently applying to at least one surface of a preformed, solid, non- porous, polymeric substrate a layer of a solid composition, the composition comprising at least one active antibacterial or antifungal agent capable of migrating from the layer into and throughout the substrate and maintaining the layer adhered to the surface of the substrate to permit a sufficient amount of the active agent to migrate from the layer into the substrate to impart an effective level of activity throughout the substrate including a surface of the substrate which is not directly contacted by the layer. Suitable agents may be phenolic, metallo-organic, inorganic metal salts, organosulphur, antibiotic, quaternary amine, carbonyl, carbocyclic and halogenated carbocyclic, e.g. captan or phenylmercuric borate.
