The aeroplane wing with an extending leading edge flap is basically conventional. The flap (2) extends forward clear of the wing (1) when in use and it retract into the wing when not in use. To eliminate the aerodynamically disadvantageous sharp leading edge to the wing usually associated with this type of flap a curved strip (3) is fitted, hinged along the wing leading edge and shaped to create an aerodynamically favourable profile when tilted forward. A recess (4) in the wing underside accommodates the retracted strip and flap in such a way that they form a continuous surface with it. To keep this recess short the flap is hinged.
