HV DC voltage regulator and stabiliser - has ladder of Zener diodes and transistors controlled from same source

The HV DC voltage regulator and stabiliser, for communications equipment, consists of the series combination of the voltage source and load and several identical transistors. Each transistor has its collector/emitter shunted by a zener diode. - The bases of the transistors are connected via diodes (D1 etc) and resistors (R1 etc) to a shared control potential. The reverse voltage of each diode is selected according to its position in the ladder. A transistor switch (t4) applies the control voltage to the ends of the base resistors.
